Users of Tesco’s Clubcard Pay+ prepaid card must withdraw their funds immediately, as the service shuts down on April 26. The linked Round Up savings account will also close, prompting urgent action to avoid delays.
What Is Clubcard Pay+?
Launched in 2022 and closed to new customers last year, Clubcard Pay+ allows users to load money onto the card and earn Clubcard points on purchases at Tesco stores and other retailers. It also features automatic rounding up of transactions to the nearest pound, directing the spare change into a connected savings account.
Why Is Tesco Closing the Service?
Tesco Bank is discontinuing Clubcard Pay+ and Round Up accounts to concentrate on its core product lineup. The decision follows a thorough review of offerings.
Tesco states: “Following a careful review of our products, we’ve made the decision to close our Clubcard Pay+ and Round Up accounts to focus on our range of other accounts. We’ll no longer be offering accounts of this kind and understand this may be disappointing. However, you can still collect points with your Clubcard as usual, and we continue to offer other savings accounts that may be right for you.”
Steps to Take Before April 26
To manage the closure smoothly, customers should follow these actions:
- Withdraw cash promptly using the Clubcard Pay+ mobile app to transfer funds to any UK bank account in your name.
- For linked Round Up savings accounts, first transfer balances to the main Pay+ account, then move them elsewhere.
- Any remaining funds after April 26 will be returned, but processing may take longer. Tesco Bank will send confirmation details by mail.
- Verify contact information in the app to ensure receipt of final statements and refunds.
- Update payment details for any subscriptions linked to the card.
- Obtain a new Clubcard to continue earning points at Tesco. Previously, Pay+ handled points automatically; now download the Tesco app for a digital version or request a physical one.
Acting quickly ensures seamless transitions and avoids potential disruptions.
