UK Set for Weekend Heat Blast Amidst Shifting Weather Patterns
The nation is anticipating a significant surge in temperatures this weekend, with forecasters predicting a return of heatwave conditions and highs potentially reaching 30 degrees Celsius. This comes just weeks after the country experienced record-breaking warmth.
Despite a week characterized by unsettled weather, including predicted rain and showers, a notable shift is expected as the weekend approaches. Temperatures are forecast to climb well above the seasonal average, which typically hovers around 21C for southern England.
Meteorologist Details Weekend Temperature Rise
Dan Stroud, a meteorologist, outlined the expected weather changes. “We’re looking at temperatures climbing into the weekend, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, so feeling much warmer than recent days,” Stroud stated. “Temperatures are quite widely expected to be above average, especially across the south come Saturday, and even more so on Sunday.”
Stroud indicated that some areas could surpass the 30C mark. “How high the temperatures get is still open to a fair amount of debate,” he commented. “There is a growing signal that temperatures will be heading comfortably into the high 20s, perhaps breaking 30 degrees again.” He added, “There is definitely a chance of temperatures scraping into the above 30 degrees on Sunday, and then more so on Monday.”
He further explained that the current weather pattern is influenced by a change in the jet stream, which has been directing unsettled Atlantic weather systems across the country. “End of this week, high pressure starts to build from the south, with clearing skies and rising temperatures over the continent,” Stroud noted. “It’s just a perfect recipe for temperatures to actually start climbing.”
Southern England to Experience Hottest Conditions
As anticipated, the southern and South East regions of England are projected to experience the highest temperatures over the weekend. This warm spell follows a period of stormy conditions predicted for the rest of the week.
Thursday is identified as likely the wettest day, with an organized band of rain expected to move across the country. However, meteorologists offer a hopeful outlook, with Stroud remarking, “But there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
London’s Temperature Forecast Shows Significant Rise
For London, the forecast indicates a substantial temperature increase, with highs of 28C predicted for Sunday. This is a significant jump from the 17C anticipated for Thursday.
This upcoming warmth follows a recent record-breaking heatwave. May 26th was officially the hottest day in May on record for both England and Wales, with temperatures reaching 35.1C at Kew Gardens and 32.9C at Cardiff Bute Park.
