Xavi Simons has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), sidelining the Tottenham midfielder for approximately eight months. The injury occurred during Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday, ruling him out for the remainder of the Premier League relegation battle and the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign this summer.
Injury Details
Simons twisted his knee on the turf at Molineux while chasing a ball toward the byline in the 63rd minute. Medical staff stretchered him off the pitch, delivering a significant setback for the 23-year-old and the team.
Impact on Tottenham’s Survival Fight
New manager Roberto De Zerbi relied on Simons’ creativity amid the club’s relegation struggle. Despite the hard-fought win—the team’s first in 16 league matches—Tottenham sits 18th in the table, two points behind 17th-placed West Ham with four games remaining.
De Zerbi managed without nine injured players at Wolves and also lost striker Dominic Solanke to a muscle injury during the match. Tottenham faces Aston Villa next on Sunday.
Simons’ Emotional Response
Simons posted an emotional message on Instagram, stating: “They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way. My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense. All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me, along with the World Cup.”
