GB News paused its late-night TV special moments after airing US President Donald Trump’s pointed comments on UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
Presenter Bev Turner took to the airwaves Thursday morning, April 30, to cover major headlines. Discussion swiftly turned political as she detailed Trump’s criticism of the Prime Minister amid King Charles’ ongoing state visit to the United States.
King Charles’ Diplomatic Trip
King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in Washington, D.C., on Monday afternoon, April 27, to bolster relations between the two nations’ leaders. The King attended a state dinner at the White House and addressed Congress during the four-day visit.
Trump delivered the remarks to international media in the Oval Office, just hours before the royal couple’s planned return to the UK.
Trump’s Comments on the King and UK Policy
President Trump lauded the monarch, saying: “The King is fantastic, we spent a lot of time together, we had a lot of talks, we talked about this also, and he loves his country, and he’s a great King, and he’s a great friend of mine.”
He then referenced international issues, stating: “I think if he were doing that, if that were up to him, he would have probably helped us with Iran, he would have followed the suggestions we made with respect to Ukraine, because you know, we have some disagreements with Ukraine and not having to deal with NATO so much as European countries.”
Trump linked admiration for the King to UK leadership, adding: “When you like the King of a country so much, it helps your relationship with the Prime Minister, but in the case of the Prime Minister, I said, ‘Do you want to send a little help?’ He said, ‘No, we’ll send it after you win the war’. I said, ‘That’s not good, that’s not good’.”
