Royal Wedding Details Emerge Years Later
A previously undisclosed moment from the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton has come to light, thanks to a professional lip reader. The Prince of Wales reportedly shared a humorous remark with his father-in-law, Michael Middleton, as he escorted his daughter down the aisle.
A Glimpse into the Ceremony
The Prince and Princess of Wales, now celebrating 15 years of marriage, exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. Catherine, then Princess Catherine, captivated attendees in a gown designed by Sarah Burton. Her father, Michael Middleton, who recently marked his 77th birthday, accompanied her to the altar.
The Revealing Quip
As the couple approached Prince William at the altar, a lip-reading expert, Tina Lannin, observed a lighthearted exchange between the Prince and his father-in-law. Upon reaching the altar, William greeted his bride with affectionate words, reportedly saying, “You look lovely. You look beautiful.”
Following this tender moment, William is said to have turned to Michael Middleton and delivered a jocular comment. Lannin disclosed that the Prince’s words were: “We’re supposed to have just a small family affair.”
Family Integration into Royal Life
The Middleton family has consistently been a visible and welcomed part of royal events. This was notably demonstrated at the King’s coronation in 2023, where their grandson, Prince George, played a significant role as a Page of Honour, with both Michael and Carole Middleton in attendance.
Prince William is also understood to share a strong relationship with Catherine’s siblings, Pippa and James Middleton. Author Robert Hardman has previously noted William’s commitment to ensuring Catherine’s family felt fully integrated into royal life. Hardman highlighted William’s “direct request” for both of Catherine’s parents and her siblings to have meaningful roles in significant occasions.
During his 2010 engagement interview with Catherine, Prince William described her parents as “really loving, caring, and really fun,” underscoring the close bonds that have developed.
