Featured New Releases

Palworld 1.0

After a highly successful early access period, Palworld has officially launched its 1.0 version. Developed and published by Pocketpair, this creature-collecting survival-crafting game is now available on Steam for Windows and Mac (Steam Deck Verified), as well as on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox for PC, and PlayStation 5. Priced at $30, with launch discounts available, Palworld is also included in Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass subscriptions.

The 1.0 update is substantial, introducing 72 new creatures, new explorable areas like floating islands, an increased level cap, significant audio and visual enhancements, and a revamped story. The patch notes alone exceed 10,000 words, indicating the sheer scale of content added. Developers recommend starting a fresh save file to fully appreciate the updated experience. Ahead of the launch, Pocketpair advised players to remove any installed mods to prevent potential issues like save data corruption.

Palworld has achieved remarkable success, with over 40 million players flocking to its unique blend of creature companionship and survival mechanics, often seen as an alternative to the Pokémon franchise.

Tiny Bookshop

The charming life simulation game Tiny Bookshop, previously a hit on PC and consoles, has now arrived on iOS and Android devices. Published by Skystone Games and 2P Games, this title allows players to manage a small bookshop housed in a trailer. Players can tow their shop to various scenic locations, stock shelves, and decorate the interior, which influences customer interactions and book recommendations.

Since its debut in August 2025, Tiny Bookshop has sold over 500,000 copies. The mobile version offers the same engaging gameplay of discovering secrets and curating a cozy literary haven, now accessible on the go for $8.

Permaban

For those seeking a dose of digital nostalgia, Permaban offers a unique simulation experience. Developed by UnrealByte, this game tasks players with moderating an online forum in the mid-2000s, complete with a Windows XP-style interface. Players must review user posts, enforce a dynamic set of rules, and deal with distractions like pop-up messages and instant messenger notifications.

The game meticulously recreates the era with elements like a “Winump” desktop music player and classic screensavers. Success hinges on accurately assessing edge cases and issuing appropriate consequences for rule infractions, as incorrect bans can negatively impact the player’s reputation. The developer has captured the authentic tone and aesthetic of the period, with in-game details like user passwords and MySpace rankings adding to the immersion. Permaban is playable now on Itch.io on a pay-what-you-want basis and is slated for release on Steam later this year.

Cat Mail Co.

Maracas Studio presents Cat Mail Co., a relaxing post office simulator set on an island inhabited by cats. Players step into the role of the new postmaster, tasked with clearing a backlog of mail and managing daily deliveries. The game features a gentle pace with no penalties or time limits, making it an ideal title for unwinding.

As night falls, the game introduces a magical element, and players can uncover a story hidden within the mail. With support for up to four players in co-op, Cat Mail Co. offers a communal, laid-back experience. The game launched on July 9th on Steam, with a special Supporter Edition including a soundtrack and artbook available at no extra cost for the first week.

Hyperwired

SidralGames and SelectaPlay offer Hyperwired, a 2D twin-stick shooter with a distinctive gameplay mechanic. Players control a spaceship tethered to a power socket, which is used for recharging energy and managing resources. This tether restricts movement, creating strategic vulnerabilities during intense combat. The game incorporates roguelite elements, featuring procedurally generated galaxies, multiple ships with unique abilities, and a vast array of upgrades and bullet modifier combinations.

A slow-motion ability aids in navigating the chaotic action. Hyperwired is available on Steam (Steam Deck Verified), Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S for $8, with a demo also available on Steam.

Upcoming Indie Games to Watch

Vampirium: 1997

Thomas Pace’s studio, Bithell Games, known for titles like Thomas Was Alone, is developing Vampirium: 1997. This immersive sim places players in a world where Dracula reigns as the King of England. As one of his loyal minions, the objective is to eliminate the king’s adversaries and consolidate his power. The gameplay draws parallels to minimalist stealth titles like Hitman: World of Assassination, incorporating time-management elements reminiscent of John Wick Hex, particularly concerning the dangers of daylight for a vampire.

A recently released gameplay video showcases the mission structure, where players navigate secure environments, interact with characters and objects, and manage the time cost of each action. The game also alerts players to impending enemy attacks, allowing for strategic counters. Vampirium: 1997 is expected to enter early access on Steam in the future.

Greedy Greedy Gnomes

Nautlander’s upcoming title, Greedy Greedy Gnomes, formerly known as Eldor’idle, is a satirical clicker-idle RPG focused on accumulating wealth. Players aim to become extraordinarily rich by hiring gnomes to automate the coin-collecting process, which involves smashing pots and mining resources. The game, developed by a solo creator, promises more depth than a typical idle game, with hints of lurking demonic presences adding an intriguing layer to the capitalist satire.

Scheduled for release on Steam on August 12th, published by Future Friends Games, this title offers a unique take on the genre.

Hillthorn

Raw Fury is publishing Hillthorn, a detective game developed by Fool Moon and Finnegan Motors. This title challenges players to solve the mystery of a missing child using logic and intuition, relying on clue cards instead of dialogue. As an outsider investigating a secluded community, players must carefully gather information while managing a ticking clock that advances with every action. The game’s card-based investigation mechanics and Raw Fury’s involvement make it a noteworthy title for puzzle and mystery enthusiasts. A demo is available on Steam.

Steel Maiden

Solo developer Cho Ki Choul is behind Steel Maiden, a roguelite action game with a unique control scheme. The game is designed to be played using only two buttons, appealing to players who enjoy minimalist input mechanics. With slick animations and visually appealing graphics, as seen in the trailer, Steel Maiden aims for a late 2026 release on Steam for PC and Steam Deck. A demo is expected soon.

Backyard Baseball

Mega Cat Studios’ latest entry, Backyard Baseball, is now available on Steam for Windows and Mac, with planned releases for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. While the game offers charming visuals and fun animations, along with enjoyable special abilities and light team management, some players have noted issues with control responsiveness, particularly in fielding and pitching outside of dedicated modes. The commentary can also become repetitive.

Online multiplayer, initially planned for launch, has been delayed to ensure it meets the developer’s quality standards. Mega Cat Studios has stated that online functionality will be added at a later date. The game features unlockable stadiums, characters, and collectibles through gameplay, with no microtransactions.

Conclusion

The indie game landscape continues to flourish, offering a rich tapestry of creativity and innovation. From the expansive worlds of Palworld and the cozy charm of Tiny Bookshop to the niche appeal of a forum simulator like Permaban and the unique mechanics of Hyperwired, there are experiences to suit every taste. With promising titles like Vampirium: 1997 and Hillthorn on the horizon, players have much to anticipate in the coming months and years.
