Australian skier Jakara Anthony claimed gold in the women’s dual moguls at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, marking a stunning recovery from recent disappointment.
Anthony’s Dominant Performance
The 27-year-old Victorian powered through the early rounds with ease before defeating three American competitors in succession. She ousted singles champion and bronze medalist Elizabeth Lemley in the semifinals.
In the final on the Livigno course, where skiers compete head-to-head and judges evaluate turns, jumps, and speed, Anthony triumphed over Jaelin Kauf. Officials scored the bout 20-15 in her favor.
Record-Breaking Olympic Campaign
This victory secures Australia’s third gold medal at Milano Cortina, the nation’s most successful Winter Olympics to date. Anthony becomes the first Australian Winter Olympian to capture two golds in a single Games.
Just two days prior, a mid-race fall in the super final dashed her chances of defending her singles moguls title, despite entering as the top favorite.
Anthony joins moguls skier Cooper Woods and snowboard cross athlete Josie Baff as gold medalists for Australia in Italy. Scotty James earned silver in the men’s snowboard halfpipe.
