The British royal family is set to welcome a new member as Harriet Sperling prepares to marry Peter Phillips, Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson. The wedding is scheduled for June 6 in the picturesque Cotswolds.
Introducing the Bride-to-Be
Harriet Sperling, a dedicated pediatric nurse specialist for the National Health Service (NHS), brings a unique perspective to the royal sphere. Her professional passion lies in early brain development in infants and fostering children’s well-being, as noted in her contributions to a UK magazine for Christian women. Sperling, daughter of the late Rupert Sanders and Mary Sanders, was first publicly linked with King Charles’ nephew in 2024. Their relationship became official at the Badminton Horse Trials.
A Mother’s Journey
Like Peter Phillips, who is a father to Savannah and Isla Phillips, Harriet is also a parent. She has a daughter, Georgina, from a previous marriage to fitness trainer Antonio St. John Sperling. Reports suggest that Harriet and Peter met at a sporting event involving their respective daughters. In a reflective piece penned in May 2024, Harriet spoke about the challenges and profound love experienced as a single mother. She described her early years of raising Georgina as a time of scarce resources and uncertainty, yet one where she discovered immense strength and the power of selfless love.
“My daughter and I journeyed 10 years with only each other,” Harriet shared. “I liken us to an island and it has often felt hard to imagine anyone joining that island.”
Embracing a New Family Dynamic
Since forming her relationship with Peter, Harriet has embraced his daughters, Savannah and Isla. Described as “very motherly,” she has been observed providing comfort and support to the girls. Following an appearance at the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo in 2024, a source commented on the developing family unit. “At one point, Savannah returned to the table and seemed a bit upset, and Harriet was putting her arm around her and comforting her. They’re a tight unit, very quickly, they seem to be a bit of a family. Harriet seems very motherly and very good with the kids.”
Integration into Royal Circles
Harriet has made several public appearances alongside Peter and his family. In 2025, she attended Royal Ascot, where she was seen interacting warmly with Princess Anne, Zara Tindall, and Princess Beatrice, as well as engaging in conversation with King Charles and Queen Camilla. This event also marked their carriage debut as a couple during the royal procession. The following month, they were seen cheering on Prince William at the Out-Sourcing Inc. Royal Charity Polo Cup. That summer, Peter introduced Harriet to Balmoral for the first time, shortly after their engagement announcement.
A statement issued for the couple confirmed that both families had been informed of their engagement and were delighted. “Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement,” the statement read.
Royal photographer James Whatling remarked that the engagement was anticipated, noting the couple’s evident closeness and affection. “We were waiting for this news. You can’t watch this couple for too long without noticing how close they are, they’re so tactile and they’re clearly so in love.”
While they did not spend Christmas 2025 together as an engaged couple, Harriet and Peter, along with their daughters, joined the royal family for Easter celebrations in 2026. This marked Georgina’s first public appearance with the royals, though she had met them previously at Balmoral in 2025.
A Royal Wedding on the Horizon
The upcoming wedding at All Saints Church in Kemble is expected to be attended by King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales. A friend of the couple described the ceremony as “an intimate occasion with their close friends and immediate family around them in the Cotswolds.” The reception is anticipated to be held at Gatcombe Estate, the residence of Peter’s mother, Princess Anne.
Following the engagement announcement in 2025, royal observers noted that the union was positive news for both Peter and Harriet, and for the wider royal family. Harriet’s apparent warm reception into the fold has been highlighted as a significant aspect of this new chapter.
