Jewelry Store Owner Shares CCTV Footage to Deter Thieves
A determined business owner, fed up with repeated thefts from her jewelry stores, has resorted to publicly sharing surveillance footage of the alleged offenders. Anastasia Barba, co-owner of The Silver Collective, has experienced numerous instances of shoplifting at her boutiques located in Westfield Miranda and Parramatta.
Caught on Camera: A Pattern of Theft
Recent security footage shows individuals suspected of stealing merchandise. In one clip, a woman in a grey gilet is seen quickly taking several items before exiting the store. Another recording captures a person in a dark blue top with white markings appearing to place a bracelet on their wrist and conceal it.
Further evidence reveals a person in a black hoodie near the counter, seemingly examining necklaces before taking one. Staff members were observed attempting to confront and pursue the individual. In a separate incident, a seemingly unhurried shoplifter was filmed selecting items and placing them into a bag before casually walking away.
Taking Action and Issuing a Warning
Ms. Barba has confirmed that these are not isolated incidents and that numerous other thefts have been captured on camera. All instances have been reported to the police and shopping center security. She explained the standard procedure involves sending screenshots of suspects’ faces to Westfield security, who then monitor their movements within the mall.
While Ms. Barba chose to blur the faces in the shared footage, stating she did not wish to “ruin people’s lives on the internet,” she issued a strong warning to potential thieves. “Just know that if you are thinking about stealing from us or any retail store, there are cameras everywhere,” she stated. “Don’t do it, you’re gonna get caught.”

The decision to share the footage has garnered significant public support. Many have commended Ms. Barba’s proactive approach, with one commenter calling it “a good approach” and “a good warning for them.” Another expressed, “I swear, aren’t they embarrassed, good on you for making this.” Sympathy was also extended, with one individual saying, “Ahh that’s awful, I hope you get the items back.” Notably, another business owner claimed to recognize one of the individuals in the footage, stating, “What? I know this man! He came into my shop today and I was talking to him.”
