Nearly two decades after the release of the beloved teen comedy Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, one of its stars has opened up about a surprise cast reunion and expressed hope for a potential sequel. Eleanor Tomlinson, who played the witty and awkward Jas in the 2008 film, shared her fond memories during a recent interview about her upcoming series, The Fortune.
Tomlinson revealed that just last week she reconnected with co-star Georgia Henshaw, who played Rosie, for the first time in 18 years. “We met up and it was like no time had passed at all. It was unbelievable,” she said. “I look back so fondly on it.”
Behind the Scenes: A Family Affair
Reflecting on the unique experience of making the film as a teenager, Tomlinson noted the behind-the-scenes support system that shaped the cast’s relationships. “When you’re working that young, what you don’t see is your mums, the chaperones, or the fact that you have to be tutored. There’s a whole family around you,” she explained. “Our mums came too, and it was just great.”
The film, directed by Gurinder Chadha of Bend It Like Beckham fame, launched the careers of several young actors including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played the iconic Robbie. Tomlinson recalled her first on-screen kiss with Taylor-Johnson on an earlier project, The Illusionist: “He was actually my first ever kiss – which was on screen, I hasten to add – so sweet. I just remember being absolutely terrified.”
Hopes for a Sequel
When asked about the possibility of revisiting the story two decades later, Tomlinson was enthusiastic. “It was really, really special. I hope they do a sequel and see us all now as old, haggard people – that would be brilliant,” she said. A follow-up film reuniting the original cast would likely delight fans who grew up with the story of Georgia Nicolson’s teenage adventures.
Tomlinson admitted she is no longer in regular contact with Taylor-Johnson, who has since become a major star with roles in Nosferatu, 28 Years Later, and Kraven the Hunter. “I’m sure if we bumped into each other, it would be absolutely fine. Our paths just haven’t crossed again. But who knows, maybe they will,” she added.
For now, fans can only hope that studio executives take note of the enduring love for the film. Tomlinson’s comments suggest the cast remains close-knit, and the appetite for a nostalgic sequel is very much alive.
