Scene of Devastation and Rescue Efforts

Videos circulating on Chinese social media depict thick plumes of smoke rising from the site, with collapsed structures and scattered debris visible across the area. Nearly 500 firefighters, rescuers, and medical teams rushed to the scene. To mitigate further dangers, crews implemented spraying and humidification techniques while deploying three robots to aid in search-and-rescue operations.

The blast took place at the Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company.

President Xi Demands Swift Action

President Xi Jinping has ordered a rapid investigation into the cause of the explosion and demanded strict accountability for those responsible. He further directed authorities to bolster risk assessments and hazard controls in critical industries, prioritizing public safety and the protection of lives and property.

China’s Dominant Fireworks Industry

China remains the world’s leading fireworks exporter, shipping $1.14 billion worth last year—accounting for more than two-thirds of global sales, according to economic data.

Recent Push for Enhanced Safety

Xi frequently provides directives following major accidents. Just last week, he called for a nationwide improvement in disaster response capabilities. Similar instructions followed a deadly blaze last November at Hong Kong’s Wang Fuk Court housing complex, which killed 168 people.
