President Donald Trump has revealed detailed renderings of a temporary stadium transforming the White House South Lawn for the first-ever UFC event at the presidential residence. Scheduled for July 15 as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the spectacle dubbed UFC Freedom 250 promises to be a groundbreaking moment in sports history.
Stadium Design and Setup
The 4,000-seat arced venue will use the White House as its dramatic backdrop for global broadcasts, with the Washington Monument visible from the reverse angle. Two arches will frame the Octagon, highlighting the iconic building for television viewers. After over a year of preparations, these updated visuals showcase minor refinements to earlier concepts.
Fight Card Highlights
Headlining the card, lightweight champions Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje clash to unify their titles, marking Topuria’s return following a hiatus. The co-main event pits Alex Pereira against top-ranked heavyweight Ciryl Gane. Although rumors swirled about potential appearances by Jon Jones and Conor McGregor, those matchups did not materialize. UFC CEO Dana White has overseen the planning, including suggestions to involve Ivanka Trump centrally.
Trump’s Enthusiasm and Promises
During a press briefing in the Oval Office, Trump displayed the renderings with fighters like Gaethje and Topuria positioned behind the Resolute Desk. “I’m a big sports fan. There are no people tougher in sports than the people behind me. These are the toughest. I know them all,” Trump declared. He hailed the bout as the “greatest show on earth” and noted that around 100,000 spectators could view the action via large screens around Washington, D.C.
Justin Gaethje expressed gratitude, stating, “What an unbelievable honour. To have a president that’s willing to go against an upstream and against the norms is truly special. That’s why you got my vote. And it’s why we’re such a great nation right now compared to where we were.”
Event Logistics and Security
Fighters will make walkouts directly from the White House to the Octagon. Weigh-ins occur the previous day at the Lincoln Memorial. Attendees face rigorous security checks before entering the grounds. UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently described the occasion as “insane,” underscoring its unprecedented scale.
