A shortage of affordable and supportive housing fuels rising homelessness rates in Winnipeg. Data shows more than 8,248 individuals without stable housing as of March 31, with 104 entering chronic homelessness over the past year.
Rising Numbers and System Strain
Individuals entering homelessness now outpace those finding stable homes, resulting in extended stays on the streets and more cases of chronic homelessness. The data covers people in shelters, temporary accommodations, or living unsheltered. Over half of those tracked experience chronic homelessness, defined as lacking stable housing for six months or more, or facing repeated episodes over multiple years.

These figures reflect only those accessing services, suggesting the true count of unhoused residents in the city may exceed current estimates.
